Week 3: Wash and Pack Winter Work Begins!

Posted on November 19th, 2018 by Featherstone Farm

What happened to fall? It feels like winter is already here, right!?!  With barely any fall-like weather and temps well below average in October--and now November--we're all shocked to find it's already the holiday season.  As the fall has seemingly (or feelingly!) come and gone, so too is our work out in the fields for the year.  This season's harvest is officially nestled into our warehouse for our winter shares and wholesale, with thousands and thousands of pounds of storage crop bounty awaiting washing and packing over the next four months.

This week, you'll find the crew doing exactly that, which is what we'll (mostly) be doing all winter!

While there is also a great deal of winter office work for our field production crew -- planning for and developing the crop plan for 2019 -- that work is carefully timed in relation to the carrot and CSA wash and pack.  We all share the task of this cold, wet and monotonous work, a work that keeps our employees paid and the lights on during the winter!

As we enter into the holiday season, we want to thank you for your partnership with our farm this winter, as you are also the reason we're able to keep a small crew employed year round.  We hope each box of our veggies are enjoyed with your family and friends and we're so grateful to be a part of a larger community because of you and the food we share together.

Gratefully,

Patty, Jack and the Featherstone Crew
