Nathan on Winter at the Farm

Posted on January 12th, 2021 by Featherstone Farm

Hello CSA members!

I hope you are all finding some time to enjoy these sunny days that we've been having. Although the sun is still setting before 5, it sure feels a lot better when the bright rays can soak into the skin, even if just a little bit.

We are now in the heart of the “winter season” here at the farm and although we have plenty to keep us busy, we are definitely starting to take advantage of the work load decreasing with some long lunch breaks and early punch outs. It is amazing how quickly the farm goes from hustle and bustle of holiday rush to very quiet in mid-January and February. We're all doing our best to enjoy the rest while it lasts. I’m sure I speak for many when I say it can be tempting to always be looking forward and yearning for spring or summer, but I am trying my darndest to enjoy the winter for what it is. More time to kick back with a favorite novel, some hot coffee, and give the body a good break before we begin seeding again on March 1!

I hope you enjoy your box this week! I’m especially excited about the spinach, which I feel just keeps getting sweeter and sweeter.  Thank you once again for all your support. The CSA/Harvie system remains an unbelievably strong community for us and I cannot say enough how grateful we are.

I hope you all stay healthy and happy.

Sincerely,

Nathan Manfull
