Hello July Harvest!

Posted on July 12th, 2019 by Featherstone Farm

July is an extremely busy season, with many of our spring farm jobs, like seeding and planting, overlapping with our weeding and cultivating of plants already out in the fields.  Of course, harvest is in full swing, too, and with the cold, wetter than average spring behind us, we're excited to be entering into the bounty of fruiting summer crops like sweet corn, cucumbers, zucchini and more.  Hello July Harvest!

And speaking of our harvest and your share each week, most of you are aware of our recent pea and strawberry shortages the last two weeks.  We appreciate your understanding of the role weather plays in our projections of what we'll have available.  Because we determine your share contents on Friday morning, we need to estimate the weather conditions against the amount of growth for each crop 4 days in advance.  While we aim conservatively, and have a good deal of experience with this highly complicated equation, shortages of certain items will happen from time to time.  Here is how we plan to deal with them moving forward:

If we are short on an item for a given week, we will email you on Monday to let you know that item X will be missing in your share and that we've credited your account for the value of that item.  This credit will be on your account for you to use towards buying extra veggies during the season (use it during the customization period of your box from Friday morning to 6am on Sunday).  It will be valid until the last week of the summer season.

Thanks for your patience with us as we work through the kinks of customizing our shares for the first time; we're excited to be sharing in this new innovation with you this season!

Happy Eating,

Patty and the Featherstone Crew
