[CSA Update] Welcome to week 11

Sweet and crunchy green beans start harvesting this week. Thank you for supporting locally grown - and for putting the can opener down.

I have nothing against a good green bean casserole. Many holiday meals had a side dish because someone graciously brought that to the party.

As the pandemic has shown, our food supply is susceptible to disruptions, along with the rest of the economy.

The corporate entities dominating many sectors of our economy are big, not kind of big. Consolidation of the processing and marketing companies between the fields and the consumer has been happening in record numbers.

Grocery prices have jumped up; however, farmers and ranchers don't see this increase in what they are paid; instead, they receive persistently lower prices.
14.3 cents is what a farmer receives out of every retail food dollar currently.

Several Congressional hearings focus on sectors like energy, pharmaceuticals, and technology having unfair practices. Let's have a few more about the food practices. Let's get more people talking about options to enforce fair competition laws and invest in resilient food supply chains for an entire communities benefit.

Your farm share puts good food on your table. It also stands for how you want your food grown, your community strengthened, and keep food diversity flourishing.

Enjoy those fresh from the farmer green beans and your entire farm share. It does a world of good.
