Farm Happenings for June 2, 2021

Posted on May 28th, 2021 by Ida DeFrancesco

The unofficial start of summer is here. I am expecting lots of pictures of meals made for the Memorial Day parties. Have you planned to pull your camper, RV, or tent out of storage to have a long weekend coming up? It's summer - enjoy every moment.

We are kicking off our second week, week 17 this week. We count down over the summer. Folks that are coming back, please do exchange your baskets each week.

Also, have a lookout for the folks that are starting up this week - you might remember what it was like picking up your very first basket way back when.

Give them a smile, lead them over to the pickup area, and share your best clean-out your fridge before CSA pickup recipes.

For our off-farm folks - we are working on a box exchange. If you leave the boxes out for your next delivery or bring them to your pickup point, we will try to pick them up. We are just piloting this and will let you know how that goes.

These first three weeks are heavy on the leafy greens - so delicate and tasty. The strawberries are just starting to color up and will build momentum every warm day that we have.

The garlic is looking good.  We plant it in the fall and we harvest the following summer.  Taking a walk through the field I saw that the scapes are popping up - time to clip those and enjoy that gentle garlic flavor.  I use them as a substitute for chives (but know that everyone at the table should share, it is garlic after all).
