Tuesday CSA: Dickinson College Farm Field Notes for Week of December 9th

Posted on December 5th, 2019 by Mary Silva

Field Notes:

As snow flurries whirl outside my window, the month of December is undoubtedly upon us. It is hard to believe that we are at the final week of the CSA. As you treasure your final delivery of fresh produce from the College Farm, I invite you to consider the many people involved in ensuring that ample veggies made their way to your kitchen over the last 30 weeks. Great credit is due to Will Nelson in his first year as the College Farm's Vegetable Production Manager. Over the last 10 months, Will has displayed the vigor of a talented farmer. With the help of five stellar apprentices our crops were tended to from seedling to harvest. This core team was supported daily by student workers whose passion and willingness to dive into any task helped lighten the load of day-to-day demands. Without our Packing House Coordinator, Jenn Wolf's expeditious flow in the lower barn, Tuesday pick ups and Friday deliveries would not have gone as smoothly as they have. And behind the scenes support from the Farm's Administrative Assistant, Mary Silva ensured CSA customer satisfaction.

I am proud to be a part of such a dynamic and passionate team. The yearly ebb and flow of apprentices and student workers brings new perspectives to the farm, yet the core of the operation remains rooted in the mission to grow fresh and wholesome food for our community. THANK YOU for being a part of the community that we feed. It is truly an honor to grow food that nourishes each of you. We look forward to another productive season in 2020 and hope that you will experience it with us!

All the best,
