Farm Happenings for September 22, 2023

Posted on September 18th, 2023 by Alex Smith

Hello all,

I hope yall had a great weekend. It was beautiful here on the farm on Saturday, and Sunday was the perfect day for rest with rain all day. Our last waves of outdoor crops enjoyed the rain as well. We are transitioning to planting indoors now for the winter months. It's hard to believe we are at that point in the year already. Time flies when you are farming.

I wanted to take a moment to shout out our italian sweet frying peppers. They have been my favorite vegetable for the past few weeks. They are sweet and delicious anywhere where you would normally use a fresh pepper. Even my toddler eats them like an apple. We also char them on the grill. The black charred bits peel off easily leaving a delicious, deep flavored flesh for... everything. Pizza, eggs, pasta, dips, or even just a side dish by themselves. Get 'em while they last!

Pictured:  we had a big "Weed and Feed" crew on Friday to help us pick sweet potatoes. During the semester, we offer rides to students interested in volunteering at the farm. In exchange, we all enjoy farm snacks after some fun, group farm work. Sweet potatoes are curing for a few weeks but they will be available soon!

Best,

Alex
