Farm Happenings for September 12, 2023

Posted on September 8th, 2023 by Alex Smith

Hello all and Happy Friday!

With storm clouds rolling in yesterday, the team and I raced to bring in crops, spread compost, and seed cover crops. Composting and cover cropping are some of our most important tools in our commitment to cultivating vibrant soils. Vibrant soils are our most important instrument in providing you with healthy, nutritious, delicious Organic produce.

In all, we flipped about two acres from summer production to a mix of grasses and legumes. This fall, the grasses will build incredible biomass to protect the soil over winter. In the spring the legumes will explode in growth, climbing among the grasses and pump nitrogen from the atmosphere into our soil for next years crops. When it's time to plant, we will mow and incorporate the lush biomass into the ground to supercharge our soils. I always find this time of year exciting because it when we begin laying the groundwork for success next year.

Please enjoy the late summer smorgasbord and, as always, reach out with any questions!

Best,

Alex
