Farm Happenings-September 2nd 2022

Posted on August 29th, 2022 by Will Nelson
Our summer student farmers and interns have headed out, so we're adjusting to a smaller crew. It's challenging but it does give us the opportunity to get creative with organization and empowers everyone to take on bigger responsibilities.

As the Education and Outreach Coordinator, I have the privilege of working with the veg team at the farm (and at Farmers on the Square) and organizing farm festivities when I'm on campus. It's the best of both worlds! I started the week of with a massive harvest day. Melons, tomatoes, and other solanaceous crops are absolutely thriving right now, making our harvest buckets look especially colorful. Wednesdays are market days and it's always a treat catching up with some of you there. I'm closing off my week with new student orientation. The farm is hosting an Explore More trip for incoming first years in September but the preparation starts now. I hope this trip grounds them to this place and connects them with all the valley has to offer.

If you're looking for other ways to get involved with the farm, our cooking classes and Pizza on the Plaza's are open to the Dickinson community. All that information is up on EngageD and I hope to see you there!
