Farm Happenings-June 24th 2022

Posted on June 20th, 2022 by Will Nelson

This week on the farm we did a lot of exciting harvesting and transplanting. While strawberries are unfortunately ending, we started harvesting plenty of cabbage, carrots, radishes, garlic scapes, and scallions… the perfect ingredients for kimchi! Broccoli & cauliflower heads were also popping beautifully. After work in the evening the apprentices made our own kimchi with all the veggies we harvested this week.

Every year on the farm we experiment with no-till crops. That involves terminating an established cover crop and planting directly into the soil without tilling it. While no-till fields can be a pain to plant in, it’ll be amazing later in the season when the rye on top dies and we won’t have to mulch OR weed. Then we can just reap the rewards of all the tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and squash we got in the ground.
