Farm Happenings for December 4, 2020

Posted on November 30th, 2020 by Will Nelson

It was a quiet week around the farm. We said goodbye to the last of our apprentices on Monday and we were sad to see them go. I'm always amazed at how much the apprentices grow and learn during their six month stay on the farm. They arrive with varying degrees of experience - some have worked on the farm before and some have no farm experience. Throughout the course of the growing season they become fully capable of leading harvest, giving directions, training volunteers, leading work crews, taking initiative on farm projects, running the farmers market stand, among many other things. They all learn to embrace the farming grind and experience the ebb and flows of life and death throughout the season. I'm proud of everything they accomplished this year and to say they will be missed is an understatement.

Believe it or not, the planning process for next year is underway! During this slower time, I begin to review our crops and yields from this year to create the plan for next year. It can be a tedious process at times, but the hope is that a thoughtful of review of this season will result in an improved year in 2021 with better management, higher yields, and less weeds and disease.

We hope you enjoy the last few weeks of the 2020 CSA and we're looking forward to feeding you again in 2021!
