Farm Happenings for November 3, 2020

Posted on October 30th, 2020 by Will Nelson
The rain this week has marked a final end to irrigation this season. The irrigation reels have been moved into the barn as we start to winterize the farm. We are preparing for this weekend's cold weather by covering our more delicate crops in the field and securing the greenhouses extra tightly. The impending cold also signaled the end to our greenhouse tomates; we are sad to see them go. Otherwise, our farm work has continued as usual. Weeding in the greenhouses, bulk harvesting more root vegetables, and brush clearing have taken up much of our time.
The cows experienced some excitement this week when a cattle egret decided to join them in the fields. They were very confused and tried various intimidation tactics and/or running away. The sheep are still munching away at the solar fields, but we are looking forward to seeing them back on the farm soon.
