Field Notes:

Despite having a smaller crew, this week was a productive one! We kicked it off with a big harvest day on Monday, which ended with a lesson on seed-saving. Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons were spent bunching and hanging garlic, and we are relieved to have finally finished that project (thanks to our work-share members’ help too!). We also transplanted various lettuces on Wednesday. Thursday’s harvest included a few new and exciting veggies: celery, leeks, and sweet corn. Thankfully Friday was on the cooler side for a day filled with weeding brassicas.

We are proud to have started to donate produce to the Gleaning Project, an organization that addresses food justice in South Central Pennsylvania, and to provide vegetables to our former employee’s wedding reception. Hopefully next week will bring some rain, for we have been irrigating a lot!
