Farm Happenings for July 24, 2020

Posted on July 17th, 2020 by Will Nelson

A week of high spirits, accomplishments, and many a long conversation! The team harvested our first eggplants, tomatoes, and peppers of the season, learned about biogas and solar energy capture at the farm, and experienced the legendary garlic harvest day. For this once yearly harvest, we got all farm hands on deck pulling, piling, and laying out rows of garlic to cure in the barn. Outcomes include: the crew learning that raw garlic is potent (by learning the “hard” way), and an estimated 4,000 pounds of garlic now rests in the barn!

As for the animals… the cows pray for cooler days, and our sheep are still happily munching at the solar fields— we miss them so! At this time, we are eagerly anticipating how campus decisions will influence the farm this fall.
