Farm Happenings for July 17, 2020

Posted on July 13th, 2020 by Will Nelson

This week was another hot one at the farm. This meant very sweaty farm workers, but very happy tomato, eggplant, and cucurbit plants! These plants love the heat and with the water they have been getting courtesy of our irrigation team, they are growing big and healthy. We have been doing a lot of trellising to keep up with our growing plants. Our tomato greenhouse, Orion, is trellised, straw mulched, and looking great!

Monday started off with a very informative lesson about Integrated Pest Management (IPM) from Will. Vanessa is our pest and disease scouter this year and now all of the field crew knows a bit more about what she does and why it is important. Our other tasks this week included straw-mulching tomato and sweet potato fields, weeding as much as we can, and clearing out the greenhouses as we transition to the fields. We are looking forward to next week as green beans come on and we (hopefully) do our bulk garlic harvest!
