Farm Happenings 7/26/21: Appleton Creamery Retirement / Update from Moorit Hill Farm

Posted on July 20th, 2021 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

It is with great sadness that we share the news about a huge loss in the Maine artisan creamery community. Appleton Creamery unexpectedly lost their young cheesemaker that was planning to take over the creamery as Caitlin has been transitioning to retire after 30 years of making the award winning cheese that has been filling your cheese shares. From their simple Goat Cheese in Olive Oil to their Granite Kiss and Mo Betta Fetta we will miss their cheese but more than anything want to help these dedicated people who've committed so much of their time and passion to Maine's local food community get to enjoy this next chapter of their lives. This is an extremely challenging situation and their farming community has set up a GoFund ME Campaign to help support them. Please consider donating to support them through this. Update from Moorit Hill Farm

It's been a busy summer here on the farm. We hired our first employees a few weeks ago, and it's been so great. We've been able to tackle some big projects, and begin growing more mushrooms for all of you! Our flock of sheep are enjoying the summer grazing out on pasture, and our lambs are all growing well. We started growing some medicinal reishi mushrooms and bottled a batch of both reishi and lion's mane mushroom tinctures, both available through Daybreak!
