Farm Happenings 6/21/2021: Summer Solstice / Introducing Sheepscot Bend Farm

Posted on June 15th, 2021 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

The summer solstice brings the longest day of the year and STRAWBERRIES, organic pints from Goranson's Farm and IPM non-OG quarts and flats from Fairwinds Farm are available this week. Get them while they're here, great for eating and for preserving, we have rhubarb too! The fresh crisp greens and all the salad ingredients are rolling in from the farms. Napa cabbage, garlic scapes, cilantro, along with mushrooms, tofu or your meat choice and miso makes a delicious stir fry.

We hope you're enjoying your Daybreak summer Farm & Butcher Boxes and checking out the available pantry items available from our partnering producers – ferments, cheeses, cured meats, yogurt, meats and more. Don't forget the beautiful buds in the bouquets!

Contact farmers@daybreakgrowersalliance.com if you have any questions about your boxes.

Introducing Sheepscot Bend Farm: Alna, Maine

Scott Budde and Chary Cole started dipping their toes into flower farming last year when they bought Sheepscot Bend Farm in Alna and with that inherited a maturing peony garden that explodes with blooms for 3-4 weeks in June. They have done amazingly well adapting to this new side enterprise amidst two busy careers. Scott is one of the owners and founders of Maine Harvest Credit Union, that has its mission rooted in supporting the financial needs of Maine farms and Chary, from Sesame Street to Blue Butterfly, dedicates herself to developing quality, culturally appropriate educational material for children around the world.

Daybreak is excited to help them as they develop this new enterprise and bring their gorgeous flowers to your table. Enjoy as part of the first two weeks of our flower share as well as add on bouquets for purchase!
