Farm Happenings for 9/8/2020: Changing of Seasons & Update from New Beat Farm

Posted on September 2nd, 2020 by Daybreak Growers Alliance

We are sure feeling the changing of the seasons here at New Beat as we begin to bring in our fall crops while being serenaded by the sweet lazy song of crickets in the field edges. Ken’s been working today to get some of our last beds ready in the field with the horses. These will be planted to late fall lettuces, spinach and radishes you all will be enjoying toward the end of October. Our leeks and brussels have been sizing up nicely and our big patch of fall beets is getting a last minute thin to ensure that we’ll have an abundant crop for you all winter. Our new little helper, Robin, has been an amazing addition to the farm, and although parenthood has brought along a new set of priorities on the farm it is helping us find a little more balance in our lives. As we navigate this new chapter on our farm we are so grateful to have such a sustainable and supportive customer base that helps us ensure the long term viability of our farm. Thank you for your continued support!

As we transition to fall many of you have asked about Daybreak fall and winter shares. Our current share cycle goes all the way through December! These coming months are an abundance of some of our favorite fall crops, early winter greens, roots, winter squash, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, leeks, apples and more. Our great selection of meat shares make hearty additions to your fall menus. This extended season allows for you to enjoy the local abundance all the way through the holiday season! If these fall crops aren’t your thing or your fall schedule changes your needs, you can choose to end your share at any time, just contact us at farmers@daybreakgrowersalliance.com.

For those of you who want to enjoy all the seasons of eating local in Maine, our Winter Bounty shares start up bi-weekly in January. We’ll have more info to share with you on those shortly.

Hope you all have a great start to September!
