Hello all! We hope you're enjoying these spectacular summer days and staying safe. For the week of August 11th we're lining up more summer goodness for your shares. Cantaloupe, sweet corn!, tomatoes, carrots, salad fixings and super healthy greens. Check out the Extras sections to fill your pantry with local meats, cheeses, grains and more!

Update from Villageside Farm

Greetings from Villageside Farm in what is now called Freedom. This land is part of the traditional Wabanaki Territory.

High summer brings some sweet gifts. We are pulling beets and carrots, watermelon radish and spicy onions out of the ground. We are plucking tomatoes, eggplant and peppers from their fruit clusters, while watching next week's fruits grow from mini to extra large. It is a wonder what this good soil, August heat, some rain and some irrigation water can accomplish.

The other-than-plant-life is thriving as well. The bobolinks have fledged and flown, the warblers are about but are quiet as they molt and fatten up for fall migration. The great blue herons squawk and fly over daily. We take special note of the Monarch caterpillars and adults. We cheer when we come across a farm favorite, "our mascot," the praying mantis, while keeping a watchful eye out for the "troublemakers"... thrips, cabbage lopers and Colorado Potato beetle hatches.

We send our best to all of you Daybreak supporters! Thank you for buying your food from us and other small local growers. We wouldn't be here without you!
