The cold really did a number on us this go round, lowest temp I saw was 18 degrees but it may have dipped to 17 at one point. While we covered everything we could, 20 degrees and a bit below that, doesn't sit well with most of the plants we are growing at this time. Some will die off from it but hopefully some will still be alive and just need to be cleaned up so they can start producing again. Either way though its hard to swallow after all the hard work that went into growing these crops, but that is farming! We will take the hit and try our best to bounce back, which is why we are doing these farm stands for this week. Our regular season will start back on January 2nd and proceed how it has all year. About the farm
Covey Rise Farms is located in Husser, LA just north of New Orleans in central Tangipahoa Parish and is part of the Covey Rise Sportsman's Retreat. The farm started growing vegetables on 10 acres in 2009 and has expanded to over 60 acres at present. The farm not only grows multiple varieties of over 30 types of vegetables, but in recent years has added fruit trees and flowers. Our produce is enjoyed at various types of restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas, from the finest restaurants to quaint neighborhood cafes and everything in between and by our local produce/CSA members.
