Farm Happenings for August 18, 2022

Posted on August 15th, 2022 by Grady Seale

There are still a few spots available at the field to table dinners on the 26th & 27th of August, if any of you are interested just call the Lodge at (985) 747-0310. We have finally dried up enough at the farm to start working some dirt and getting it ready for direct seed plantings of root crops. We will be seeding out carrots, turnips, radishes, kale, chard, collards, mustards, beets, and a few other things in hopes that this heat wave is almost over. It is always a bit of a gamble planting this early bc summer weeds/grass could still be an issue, if we get rain consistently and can not get a tractor in the fields, it makes it almost impossible to grow these varieties. Most of the ones I mentioned are 50-75 day crops so that is why we try to get a jump on them, so cross ya fingers!
