It sure is crazy how brussels grow on the stalk, not everyone has seen it before and I thought it would be neat to share. The sprouts actually grow in between the branches that reach out and then become foliage that looks a lot like a collard green. I have actually had some chefs prefer a brussel sprout leaf over collard greens in the past. We made it through the 22 degree weather okay, a few pipe burst and a little frost damage but nothing devastating. Looking like we have some more frosty mornings on the way so we kept the covers out and ready. I hope everyone had a great January, crazy its already over but that means Mardi Gras is getting close!

About the farm
Covey Rise Farms is located in Husser, LA just north of New Orleans in central Tangipahoa Parish and is part of the Covey Rise Sportsman's Retreat. The farm started growing vegetables on 10 acres in 2009 and has expanded to over 60 acres at present. The farm not only grows multiple varieties of over 30 types of vegetables, but in recent years has added fruit trees and flowers. Our produce is enjoyed at various types of restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding areas, from the finest restaurants to quaint neighborhood cafes and everything in between and by our local produce/CSA members.
