Farm Happenings for December 11, 2021

Posted on December 8th, 2021 by Grady Seale

It is a muddy mess out on the farm right now, we did need some rain so I won't complain too much. After the showers passed we had to get back out there and finish harvesting, which can get pretty interesting when it comes to driving around in slop. Then once everything dries up I come through with the tractor and grade all the roads, shovel out all the culverts, and fix any drainage that is subpar. It is a reoccurring process that has to happen after every rain, but the roads usually dry up before any other dirt/tractor work can take place so it works out. We are finally seeing see some carrots, turnips, radish, cauliflower, and a few others crops that everyone, including myself, has been patiently waiting for! Our strawberry plants are starting to bloom and we are putting out stakes and string so we will be ready to cover them when the cold weather gets here. Rainy days this time of year also call for me to start working on our Spring farm plan, which is always a bit hectic with trying to order seeds and guessing how much of what to plant. I do enjoy it though because I get to discover new varieties and it gives me a taste of the new season, long before it gets here.
