News:

  • Artisanal Chicken Growers Program Renewal Approval:
    • This will be our 3rd summer in this program, Coopers was one of the first small farms approved for this program by Chicken Farmers of Ontario. This program allows us to buy and raise 3000 chickens a year instead of investing in "quota" (a crazy amount of chickens.) We use to only be allowed to raise 300, but we were in the middle, 300 was too little & 30,000 was too many. This program works great for our farm.
  • Getting the Seed:
    • Our reps have sent us all of the fun seed magazines so we are now choosing what varieties will be grown on the farm summer.
  • Calving Season:
    • We added some more cows to the herd in January and they have settled in quite nicely. We are due to have our first calving season this march and are expecting 40 calves. Make sure to come by on open house day as we sometimes give tours of the cow fields.
  • Maple Syrup Season:
    • We are hoping that the ground hogs are right, hopefully we will get an early spring. We are starting to get the maple bush ready for taping some trees.
  • Migrant Workers:
    • We have sent in our application to have our seasonal workers join us again for another season. We have some of the hardest workers and we are very happy to say that we have had some of the same workers for many years.

That is all of the news for this week, we hope to see your sign ups and that you enjoy this weeks meat & veggie shares!
