Week 4 of 20, Summer Veggie Share-Cooper’s CSA Farm Happenings

Posted on June 21st, 2019 by Coopers CSA Farm

Lots of new crop ready this week including strawberries!!! Lots of rain seems to be the norm so far, some crops are loving it and some not so much. We have lots of diversity in crops planted so we are not too worried. As crops mature we don't like those heavy pounding rain storms that can cause damage, so fingers crossed.

New Farm Happenings:

  • Asparagus!! This is the time for asparagus. The season only has a couple of weeks left so now is the time to preserve, freeze, and eat copious amounts.
  • Strawberries: We have some ready! Not sure what volume you will get but you will get some for sure.
  • Planting: We are nearly caught up with our veggie plantings. Going in the ground right now are sweet potato slips, melons and squash. We finally have our field tunnels up so more tomatoes are going in.
  • Lettuce: We have some ready! There will be some available for shares. A really nice selection of all types.
  • Kale, Kholrabi, and Swiss Chard. All are ready as well and available
  • Neighbors: The cool wet spring has many of our crops growing slowly and not ready yet so we reached out to our friends up the road, Zephyr Organics, to get a few items for some variety in your share. We got some really nice spinach from them.
  • Pasture: We've had to keep the cattle out of the wettest pastures to prevent damage, but the grazing on the rest is going well. We have covered all of our early pasture once and have now started a second pass over it. Now that we have some heat the grass is growing really well.
  • Refer A Friend: We have sign up open through out the summer, so if you have friends that want to join our program be sure t give them your 'refer a friend' link so can get you $25 credit!
  • Swapping Items: We think we have got the swapping feature working the way we want. You should be able to swap without having to pull out your credit card. Of course if you want to buy more for your share or purchase extras you will need a card on file.
