Week 3 of 20; Summer 2019 Veggie Share- Coopers CSA Farm Happening

Posted on June 14th, 2019 by Coopers CSA Farm

Still catching our breath after the Raptors big win!!!!!!!

It's seems we are in a pattern of heavy rain every other day again. We're beginning to wonder if we will see 4 straight days of sun. We have some fields that we cannot get on as they just won't dry up. These fields are now penciled to go in with a forage crop (oat and peas mix) for cattle and pig feed. It will dry up eventually.

New Farm Happenings:

  • Asparagus!! This is the time for asparagus. There is a big bunch for you this week. The season only has a couple of weeks left so now is the time to preserve, freeze, and eat copious amounts.
  • Strawberries: They are finished blooming and we are hoping to have berries in your boxes come Canada day long weekend.
  • Planting: We are nearly caught up with our veggie plantings. Going in the ground right now are sweet potato slips, melons and squash.
  • Lettuce: We have some ready! There will be some available for shares.
  • Neighbors: The cool wet spring has many of our crops growing slowly and not ready yet so we reached out to our friends up the road, Zephyr Organics, to get a few items for some variety in your share. Radishes, Chinese cabbage and spinach.
  • Pasture: We've had to keep the cattle out of the wettest pastures to prevent damage, but the grazing on the rest is going well.
  • Refer A Friend: We have sign up open through out the summer, so if you have friends that want to join our program be sure t give them your 'refer a friend' link so can get you $25 credit!
  • Swapping Items: We think we have got the swapping feature working the way we want. You should be able to swap without having to pull out your credit card. Of course if you want to buy more for your share or purchase extras you will need a card on file.
