Eat the rainbow!

Posted on January 15th, 2020 by Lisa Merva

Welcome to Week 2!

This time of year can be a little drab and grey, but a rainbow of veggies certainly adds cheer! Our farms grow a variety of heirloom vegetables, so you can anticipate some surprising options at your CSA pickup.

Produce Highlights - Broccoli Greens

When we just eat broccoli florets and stems, we are missing out a really tasty part of the plant-- the leaves! Broccoli and collards both belong to the same plant family (Brassica) and broccoli greens are quite similar to collards. Broccoli greens tend to have more curled edges and a darker color, and they have their own distinct flavor-- earthy, mildly bitter, and tasting faintly like broccoli. They sweeten up as they cook, and they hold up well during cooking instead of melting away like some greens. Many people actually prefer broccoli greens to collard greens! Try them steamed, sauteed, stir-fried or even grilled!

As always, you can find more info in the Produce Guide on our website... including how to best store your veggies. Proper storage will keep your produce fresh longer!

Independent Baking Co Bread Share - Classic Baguette

The quintessential modern French bread made only with unbleached flour, sea salt, and yeast.

Artisan Spotlight - Montane Sparkling Spring Water

I'm a self-proclaimed bubbly water connoisseur and this stuff really stands apart from the rest. It is made from actual spring water -- not tap water like most -- and you won't find any added artificial flavors, sweeteners, calories, sugar or sodium-- the natural flavors taste authentic because they are! And best of all, Montane is a Georgia-based company that is committed to conservation. Check out their website for more info!

Without further ado... Let's eat!
