Farm Happenings for June 15th, 2023

Posted on June 9th, 2023 by Mike Finger

Greetings:

The harvest list for this week is pretty robust for late spring and includes  Zucchini, Garlic Scapes, Sugar Snap Peas and several other crops from Cedarville's garden along with more Strawberries from Cabrera Farm and Kale from Ralph's (both Mt. Vernon farms), micro greens from Grace Harbor Farms, and other organic, locally grown crops.  Eggs: you may have noticed we have eggs from two producers on the list now: Grace  Harbor / Misty Meadows, which we've featured for a few years now, and Day Creek Farms based in Redmond, WA.  Both eggs are WSDA certified organic, but Day Creek is a much larger operation that is able to offer their eggs at a lower price than Grace Harbor.  Both advertise their eggs as produced by pastured hens, but Day Creek limits their hens time on grass to a few hours a day, where Grace Harbor birds are on grass, or have access to grass, for all the daylight hours. Both farms have satisfied the animal welfare requirements of Washington State's organic certification rules.

Thank You for your membership,

~ Mike, Kim, and Crew
