Farm Happenings for August 18, 2021

Posted on August 15th, 2021 by Mike Finger

Greetings Friends: Was it just a dream that we had rain last week end? Walking through the woods down to the farm, the soil was moist and there was glistening in the foliage of the trees.  The entire garden was shimmering and the soil dark; a loamy, life affirming fragrance teased the senses. A week later, however, and the Great Dessication bears down upon us again.  Really, a summer like no other, and not without its benefits, though they seem strange gifts in a land that has mainly known regular damp and moss.

The pole beans are plentiful, so we are offering our members a fat bag full.  The eggplant too are many, so we've put a good quantity into the Harvie selection box for those who fancy this item.  Lettuce is proving a tough trick in this steady heat and drought, but we have managed to secure a good picking that we'll transform into salad mix (w/ spinach we've also managed to bring out of the furnace in good shape). Tomatoes continue to produce robustly, so those of you who enjoy a nice tomato bacon sandwich or caprese salad or fresh summer sauce will have some delicious fruit to work with.

Please Note: The customization period ends tomorrow, Monday, at Noon.

Boxes:  Thank You for returning your empty share boxes to your pickup site, especially when folded flat, without tears or other trauma inflicted upon them! Our site hosts really appreciate  the tidy stacks of neatly flattened boxes.

This Week's Photo: The utterly amazing Cedarville Crew in the midst of last week's CSA packing.  Scanning left to right: Georgi Huddle, Ashley Rowe, Arden Riseborough, Lauren Rossiter, Matt Citron, and Debbie Riseborough.  These are some hard working and dedicated people, who bring smiles and true grit to every working day at the farm. We are grateful and regularly amazed at their contributions to the farm.

We've posted alot of items in the Extras section this week that you can swap and / or purchase to enhance your share:

** Goat Cheese (Chevre)

** Eggs

** Pastured Chicken

** Shiitake Mushrooms

And From the Farm:

* Radishes   * Carrots   * Garlic   * Green Cabbage   * Red Cabbage   * Curly Parsley                    *  Cauliflower

Thank You for your membership and support of local farms!
