Cool Spring

Posted on May 23rd, 2020 by Mike Finger

Week # 2 of the harvest (but the first week for those of you every other week members starting this week) brings the addition of Salad Turnips and pretty much a repeat of week #1's list.  The garden is full of developing crops, but mother nature isn't providing an abundance of heat to promote their rapid growth.  It hasn't rained much either, and though we enjoy the dry conditions when weeding or working the soil with our tractors, wet springs nourish the crops better than dry ones.  The photo is of our daughter Sarah, brought out of her farm retirement to help us train this year's tomato crop.  We planted this years tomatoes a few weeks earlier than usual and they are making good growth.  Leeks, Brussel Sprouts, Winter Squash and Parsnips are some of our other long term, late season crops we've planted recently, along with many beds of quicker succession crops like lettuce, spinach, bok choi, broccoli, broccoli raab, and green onions.  We hope you enjoy this week's harvest as much as we've enjoyed growing it for you.

BOXES: The wax box your share is packed in represent a substantial investment for us, so we really count on reusing them at least a few times before they head for recycle bin.  THANK YOU for making every effort to return your box each week you return to your pickup site for the next delivery. THANK YOU for returning the unfolded and flat and WITHOUT tears or damage.  The bottom flaps fold together along creased seams that open and close like an accordion.  Simply push them outward and up to disengage from the other flaps.  Thank You!
