Turkey Update & Thanksgiving Shares

Posted on September 1st, 2021 by Daniel Zimmerli

Our first ever flock of turkeys continues to do well especially now that they're out on our new pasture. This past spring we seeded two acres of what was corn and soybeans for as long as I can remember to a diverse pasture mix which has clover, grass, kale, chicory and more. Despite the drought condition our pasture established fairly well and somewhat timely rains really helped solidify it.

Our turkeys are in a "turkey tractor" which is essentially a large, moveable pen. Part of our daily chore routine is moving the turkeys to fresh pasture and while many people say that turkeys aren't very intelligent our turkeys know that when the gator rolls up in the morning it means fresh pasture. They get excited and gather at the front of the pen, eager to access the pasture. The turkeys are sizing up nicely as well and we think we'll have a good selection of sizes for our first ever offering of Thanksgiving Shares.

Our Thanksgiving Shares are a one time, home delivered the Saturday before Thanksgiving, share that includes a turkey and can include any of the following: potatoes, onions, garlic, lettuce, thyme, oregano, beets, carrots, kohlrabi, butternut squash, eggs, honey, coffee and more! Essentially everything you need for your Thanksgiving feast. We're really excited about these shares and they will make for the best thanksgiving feast you've ever had! Sign up today as we have a limited number of shares and they're selling quick.  https://www.harvie.farm/farm/cedar-crate-farm/signup
