Shed Progress & Vacation Update!

Posted on July 25th, 2020 by Daniel Zimmerli

We continue to get lucky with storms and weather and while we are a little dry, there's still a good amount of moisture in the ground. We're hoping to dig garlic this week and after it cures for about 2 weeks it will be available in your CSA shares! We're so excited - there's just nothing that compares to fresh garlic!

Our new pack shed is coming along nicely. Nearly all of the outer steel is up and we're just waiting on replacement steel for some that got damage in shipping. On the interior our carpenter has our walk-in cooler framed up and insulated and is about 50% done with the insulation for our building. We're hoping the shed will be ready for use in 2-3 weeks. We sure could use the extra space right now!

It's the time of year where we almost hit a routine. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday we spend the majority of the day harvesting and washing produce and Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays we spend getting CSAs ready, and attending our respective farmers markets dates. The green beans are just starting to come in and within a couple weeks we should be picking really high volumes of beans. There's always a sort of ramp-up effect with beans; the first few pickings are a bit paltry compared to the bounty that comes later.

We're looking forward to our vacation. It's also the time of year where we start to get really tired and start to miss all the fun summer things that we would like to do more of. We've officially booked an AirBnb near Duluth for a few days in early August. It will be nice to slow things down a bit and relax. As a reminder, there will be no CSA that week but our employees Sam & Caitlyn will be at the market if you get low on veggies!
