Farm Happenings for February 11, 2021

Posted on February 9th, 2021 by Janet Aardema

We were honored to take part in the Virginia Regenerative Agriculture Forum last week. If you missed it, we encourage you to watch the two films on which it was based: Kiss the Ground and Living Soil. The films explain the role agriculture plays in climate change and how regenerative agriculture can reverse damage through carbon capture. The forum discussion was recorded and we'll share the link for the recording once we receive it.

In our humble farmer opinions, these are great films. We recommend watching Kiss the Ground first as it lays out the science behind farm-based carbon capture in a user-friendly way. We posted a list of helpful books on our farm blog here

Back to our on-the-ground work: Farm Share options are the least abundant for the next month or so as we settle in this deepest part of the winter. We've reserved the harvest for you first, so take a peek at your options. Carrots and greens keep us nourished this time of year!

Looking ahead to the main 2021 season, we have just a few slots left in our Farm Share for certain pick up locations AND we have fantastic monthly "Add-On" options from our friends at Gathered Threads! Choose from the following options:

  • Herbs for the Kitchen
  • Herbs for Body and Soul
  • Herbs for Tea & Wellness
  • Culture Share (of fermented vegetables)
  •
  •

To add any of these to your May through November share, log in to Harvie, click on "Place Order" and scroll down to select from the "Add On" section.

Blessings on your meals, and KEEP ON masking up, washing your hands, and staying home whenever possible ~

– Janet, Dan, & the winter Broadfork crew (Karen, Rachel, and the farm kids)
