Farm Happenings Week 17 CSA 2021

Posted on September 15th, 2021 by Aspen Moon Farm

As a CSA Member you support the Farm!  How does the Farm support the community?  We try to get this good food into as many hands as possible...  Thank you Community Food Share for coming to the farm to pick up the produce that we have to donate!  This trusty van comes weekly to pick up unclaimed CSA shares and B grade veggies.  Last week, the 3rd and 1st grade classes at the Boulder Valley Waldorf School (right next to the AMF fields in Niwot) came out onto the farm and helped harvest beets and helped sort out the Grade B beets.  Some of these had a little crack or funny shape or a bad spot which made it fun and interesting for the kiddos to see how Mother Nature works!  UpRoot Colorado came out with volunteers to glean some of our overly abundant crops (eggplant, salad, and chard) to donate to local underserved people in need of good fresh vegetables.  UpRoot is a local nonprofit whose goal is to get the surplus food to the people who need it around Boulder County.   Aspen Moon Farm donates thousands of pounds of fresh produce to Community food share and UpRoot every year.  Derick at Community Food Share said that what they get from Aspen Moon is some of the best looking produce they receive and that it goes out the door to patrons almost immediately. They report that fresh produce is the most popular item from families that they serve.  These veggies go directly to families to take home and cook up in their own kitchens.  As CSA members, you all contribute to supporting this great donation stream by supporting the overall operation of the Farm!  If you ever miss a share, now you know that your donation goes straight to community food share.  Our mission is to get the food to the people!  A great thanks to our farm community and our whole community for valuing good local food.
