Farm Happenings Week 5 Fall CSA, 2021

Posted on November 24th, 2021 by Aspen Moon Farm

Hoping you are all feeling nourished this day!  We are so fortunate to live in an area that grows such good veggies! This upcoming week we will be completing our final harvests in the fields.  Though we have had several hard freezes there are many crops that continued to grow as the soil remained warm.  We still have a few roots in the ground and some hardy greens like Napa, arugula, spicy greens, radicchio, spinach, and tatsoi.  Then we still have 2 hoop houses full of greens for CSA to take us through the last Fall CSA share.   The $9 Sale price for the 1.5lb bag of Cornmeal (regular $12) will continue for all CSA shares this Fall, as the Cornmeal harvest has been abundant this year (ie the Red Floriani flint corn that we mill into cornmeal for you).  Our cornmeal is well-loved by many, so if you are still trying to figure out how to use it feel free to ask us (also see last week's Farm Happening for good ideas).  It is featured in a new cookbook Food Elevated by Lisa Boesen pg 116.

Please enjoy Purple-top Turnips this week!  These are a the old-fashioned turnips and they are super yummy.  They make a great low-carb substitute for potatoes.  Try them roasted in a mix with other root veggies, sliced and grilled, added to stew, boiled and pureed into turnip soup (pictured above), cubed and sauteed with onion, shredded into hash browns.  The Pink Kabocha squash in this share was grown by our good friends Full Circle Farm right up the road and is of-course Certified Organic.  It is a rich, delicious squash and most similar to our Stella Blue squash (which sadly is unavailable this year).  Everything else was of-course grown right here at AMF as always.  If you have a moment to get to know more about your Farm (that's us), please view the past Farm Happenings which can be found below this one (after clicking on the Read More link).  This will be the 5th share of 7 Fall shares; last one on Dec.15.

We will be at the Winter Famers Market next weekend in the building at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont.  The winter market is rich with farmers, prepared foods, and lots of arts & crafts for great holiday shopping.  Hope to see you there!
