Farm Happenings Week 8 CSA, 2021

Posted on June 30th, 2021 by Aspen Moon Farm

This is a great week to stock up on some extra items because the CSA and Farm Stand will be closed for 2 weeks:  July12-23th.  CSA will resume the week of July 26th and continue strong through the end of October.  This pause has been built into our season in order to provide our farmers with a much needed break before the glorious heavy harvest of late Summer and Fall rolls in.  We split our team in half so that the Farm still has a small crew to take care of all of the crops and livestock while the other half gets a week off.  As farmers we love our 50-60 hour weeks through most of the season in all types of weather.  Yippee!  It takes a little crazy, but we are committed to good local food for our community!  Thank you for supporting the work that we do!

We are so glad that carrots and beets are coming in.  They are a little later this year due to some cold spring weather.  Remember to eat your beet greens and even carrot tops can be made into pesto if desired. We are pulling in the big garlic harvest this week.  This freshly harvested garlic is pretty amazing.  The paper peels off the cloves like fabric and the flavor is just right.  Try wrapping the whole bulb in tin foil and putting on the grill or in the oven.  Then you can ooze out the soft garlic onto fresh crusty bread or with a charcuterie plate.

Look forward to Peppers, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Zucchini, and Cucumbers after our brief July break.
