Farm Happenings Week 11

Posted on August 7th, 2020 by Aspen Moon Farm

Hot!  Oh glorious August, you have us human beings wilting in the fields, but you bring us the most incredible heat-loving crops that we all adore!  Juicy rich tomatoes, crispy refreshing cucumbers, zucchini forever, crunchy snap beans, elegant eggplant, tender new potatoes, peppers that beg to be stuffed, and just a glimpse of melons and raspberries.  All the farmers at Aspen Moon are bravely continuing their hard work in this heat; harvesting, lifting, bunching, counting, washing, more washing, more harvesting, and then packing custom veggie combinations and mixed flower bouquets for our community.  We are all so grateful to complete each day of good hard valued work and to nourish ourselves with this food; biting into a whole sloppy tomato, piling a glass of ice water with slices of crisp cucumbers, eating a whole spicy pepper just to see how spicy it really is....  August is definitely the time we can all easily be in awe of Mother Nature's creations.  Take a nice long look at these interesting cucumber varieties.  We have round "Lemon" cucumbers, long twisty Japanese "Suhyo" cucumbers aka "burpless", "Blonde" cucumbers that taste almost skinless, and the classic nice green cucumber.  They all taste delicious with slight differences that are fun to try to describe.  What is your favorite cucumber?
