Farm Happenings for June 11, 2020

Posted on June 8th, 2020 by Nicole Prins

What a crazy spring! Our first crop of asparagus was frosted off in mid-May & then with the heat wave we barely could keep up with them! All and all, they're here!! Asparagus is the first field crop of the year. Other goodies you'll be receiving are from our cold-frame (aka greenhouse with no extra heat), so some different greens & cucumbers! Also, some winter storage carrots & beets!

Field update- Lots of your favourites, sweet corn, beans, carrots & beets are all germinated and looking beautiful. Our famous sun sugar cherry tomatoes are also looking amazing in our field hoop house, flowering already! This week we will finish off planting all the heat loving plants, zucchini, peppers, eggplant & sweet potatoes. We've had a couple of cold nights lately, so we held off for a bit on planting these heat lovers. Fields are filling up finally! It was a late start since spring was so cool, but we're catching up!

And last but not least, strawberries are flowering & little berries are starting to make an appearance! So it wont be long!
