Frost in May…oh my!

Posted on May 10th, 2020 by Dacia Williams

The love/hate relationship a farmer has with the weather in ever changing. We did have a slight frost this weekend, but everything that needed to be covered got covered - i.e. tomatoes, squash, beans, strawberries, flowers and new baby lettuce. Now that that is over we are looking to plant cucumbers and melons next week. We hope everyone is enjoying all the healthy vegetables - we just love seeing your posts!

Here is what has happened at the farm this past week:

  • All new water lines were dug to have more access when watering the plants - hooray, no more dragging hoses from one end of the field to the other!
  • More and more strawberries are starting to ripen up, BUT rain and strawberries don't mix and we are hoping that they pull through this week even though weather predictions say rain for 5 days straight!
  • Sunflowers will be planted in the coming weeks
  • The peonies are starting to pop & will be a beautiful addition to your table - don't forget to order some!
