Farm Happenings for the week of December 17& 18, 2022

Posted on December 11th, 2022 by Jack Manix

Hi Folks, Thanks to almost everyone who remembered to exchange your CSA box this week. If you did forget, you could drop one off sometime during the week if possible. The produce boxes cost us $3 each so we'll have to add that to your CSA eventually so that we can replace missing boxes for our wholesale orders to schools, institutions and contributions to food banks. So far we've been really lucky with the weather, just missing the snow Sunday evening. That nice weather has helped us get things done around the farm in preparation for winter and next season. December is the month we order our flower and vegetable seeds for next year, Most of our vegetable seeds come from Johnny's and High Mowings Organic Seeds. We'll also be ordering our strawberry plants, seed potatoes, ginger roots and sweet potato slips. It's hard to predict what the economic climate will be like in the future but we know from many years of experience that nothing can stop folks from gardening.

We'll be adding limited amounts of Glabach's maple syrup, our beekeeper Pete's honey and packs of frozen corn to the inventory as extras this week. These syrup and honey are very popular at the farmstand and we think they would make nice holiday gifts while helping to support other local farms. We hope those of you who received celery this week are enjoying it as we think it's the nicest crop of celery we've ever grown. Some cool weather crops have much better flavor when they mature in colder temperatures.

If you're stuck for a Christmas gift you might consider a Walker Farm Gift Card which you can order online at walkerfarm.com or call 802.254.2051 and pickup at the farm.
