Farm Happenings for January 8, 2022

Posted on January 2nd, 2022 by Jack Manix

The weekend of January 8/9 will be the sixth and final share pickup of our Fall/Winter CSA. Before Covid, the winter CSA was in the farmstand and it was a nice social atmosphere where folks got to say hello to their neighbors and pick out the produce on their menus to place in their own shopping bags. Of course, there were 60-70 fewer members so the traffic wasn't too bad. Covid has taught us to be more careful with the produce and with interaction in the winter. Many of our greens are now bagged and we will probably never go back to the loose bins and tongs. All our greens are triple washed and organically sanitized to  comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act. We get inspected every year and the inspector is pretty tough but we have passed each year with high marks. He commented last year that he has not seen a greens dryer as clean as ours. One member of our crew, Lindsey, has done an instructional video that has been used by New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Vermont Extension to teach food safety. We're proud of the measures our crew takes to keep your food fresh and safe!

This week we'll be offering some 10 lb. bags of yellow onions and some 5 lb. bags of potatoes as extras if you would like to stock up. These will be discounted below what we charge for wholesale as a thank you for supporting our CSA. We hope you enjoyed the offerings and and we hope you have a safe and enjoyable winter. It's time for us to clean up the greenhouses and get ready for spring seedings. Thanks for your amazing support and for making everything go so smoothly! See you in the Spring!
