Farm Happenings for May 10, 2022

Posted on May 5th, 2022 by Shiloh Avery

Okay, so let's look back at our first harvest share week!  We did pretty good with a few hiccups (one major one like forgetting to finalize and, thus, pack the farm stand shares! I promise to not make that mistake again!).  Did you get everything you were supposed to get in your share?  We aim for no mistakes, but know of at least one packing error so if you're ever missing anything, let us know!  We'll make it right whether through a credit or getting you the product. Also, if you ever get anything of dubious quality, let us know that too!  We want to know so we can do better next time and so do our other farming friends.  Plus, then we can make it right!  We stand by our and our friends' products and if we ever fail to catch something funky-we want to know!  Also, I know I misunderstood some of the technical improvements in the system and so it appeared that everything was sold out immediately.  We've educated ourselves so that doesn't happen. And most importantly: make sure to set your preferences if you haven't already done so!  This is the first level of customization so that if you miss the email or don't have time, the box will still be customized to your preferences and you at least won't get anything you don't want!

This warm weather has sped some things up which is very exciting to see.  We're looking at tomatoes maybe by next week!

Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!

Meanwhile, here's this week's blog:

This weekend, I saw a reunion between a 23 year old and his 6th grade school teacher.  Maybe 6th grade was too young to feel this way, but I would have wanted to impress her—or at least not disappoint her.  I often wonder about some of my teachers, especially English teachers, who interact with their former students in the age of social media.  Are they disappointed? Impressed?  Do they feel like it reflects on them at all?

All this is in focus for us this week because our mentor farmers are coming for a visit.  Suddenly, we’re eyeing up every escaped weed, every evidence of disorganization, every problem and needed repair with laser vision like those things might take precedence over this week’s planting schedule.  They won’t, but we might kick in a few extra hours in the evenings to at least hide them
