Farm Happenings for September 14, 2021

Posted on September 9th, 2021 by Shiloh Avery

Building organic matter with the amazing cover crop in this fallow field so it's ready to produce food for us next season!

Just two more weeks in the main season left after this week.  This is bittersweet for us.  It means the farmily shrinks to 5, which is always sad.  It also means that the deconstruction season begins, which involves a whole lot less time pressure than planting, so it's also the easing up of the pace of farm work--a sort of light at the end of the tunnel.  We're still planting for that winter season, and still a bit for the fall season, but it's way less planting and so we're breathing a sigh of relief.

I still haven't managed to get the winter share availability into the system, but fall shares are there.  I actually limit the fall shares because we grow so much less so now is the time to sign up before we reach that limit!  This is a short 8 week season which brings us right up until Thanksgiving.  It looks somewhat similar to spring in that greens return, as well as broccoli, cauliflower, celery, bok choy, radishes, arugula and salad mix, scallions, carrots and sweet potatoes from my friend Herbie of Cottle Organics and hopefully winter squash from New Life Farm.
