Farm Happenings for June 15, 2021

Posted on June 10th, 2021 by Shiloh Avery

This is Jason surveying his broccoli kingdom.  Estimating the harvest for the following week is one of the most challenging things we do each week.  Weather can be fickle, plants can be moody, just when you think you've figured out the pattern, something changes and the harvest is smaller or larger than you predicted.  What was it that Yogi Berra said (well, he said a lot of things), "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."  But somebody has to do it!

You've completed 6 healthy weeks of eating local organic fresh fruits and veggies!  I hope everyone is feeling as good as we are!  I just purchased a veggie share for my parents in Michigan because they're looking to drastically increase their veggie consumption.  It makes me feel like they're joining us on our journey!  They'll be a few weeks behind us in the veggie department so they'll just be getting heavy into greens.  I'm going to share all y'alls cooking tips/recipes with them to help them along the way.

Keep up the good work returning boxes and egg cartons-it helps keep costs down.  Mushrooms will show up in availability this week but remember that if you were supposed to receive mushrooms this week, those will be in your box (in addition to this week's share contents) this coming week!  Also, we're just a couple of weeks away from the beginning of our partnership with Catawba Mushrooms who will be adding Lion's Mane and blue oyster mushrooms to our options!  We're excited!

Enjoy your harvest!
