Farm Happenings for August 25, 2020

Posted on August 20th, 2020 by Shiloh Avery

This is the 17th week of the main season harvest share!  Congratulations!  You have been eating healthy organic fresh veggies for 17 weeks!  This also means that it's time to decide what to do with your vacation shares.  If you put your share on vacation hold and haven't rescheduled it--would you rather put those credits toward a fall share (10 week share, one size-between regular and small--runs Septemeber 23 until Thanksgiving)? Or turn them into credits that you can use to purchase extras, or swap up in value over the next four weeks, or use to purchase occasional shares (farm stand) during the fall.  I have to do both those things manually on my end (Harvie doesn't have an automatic system for this), so you have to let me know which you prefer!  Email is preferred because then I have it in writing and am less likely to forget.  With 200 members this season, it's going to be difficult for me to figure out without prompting who has vacation credits to use.  But it's fine to email me to ask if you have any available.

I woke up Sunday in a stupor, with no recollection of how we got here.  I heard a twig crack, whipped my head around and saw that August was already here.  The farmily have been heading off to vacations, we’re planting like mad for fall, and I just haven’t looked up to notice that it’s already mid-August.

So I slowed Sunday down.  Pressed the pause button and squandered the day away dreaming of cooler days and our own potential vacation.  I stayed in pajamas all day, didn’t leave the house until the sun was scratching the backs of the trees, and did not a darn thing.  I know, there should be some guilt to scrape up because it was a gorgeous day-ripe for outdoor activity.  But I just can’t even manage a smidge of it.  I’m too busy breathing in and out and enjoying the relaxed aftermath of the pause. And I spend plenty of time outside.  I can squander a gorgeous day.

Things will get done when they get done, or they won’t. And that will be okay too.  Every once in a while, it pays to do the bare minimum, to hit the pause button and just do nothing.
