CSA Week 4: What does your TRACTOR CSA share do?

Posted on March 19th, 2021 by Dru Zucchino

We hope you're loving your TRACTOR CSA! We've never kicked-off this early before, and the new market opportunity so early in the year has been well received by our network of local farmers. Demand is high, though, so bear with us as farmers adjust. As the year goes on, you'll start seeing a lot more diversity in crops, so keep customizing!

Like any service or product, it's good to know exactly who and what you're supporting with your hard-earned money. TRACTOR Food & Farms is a 501c3 nonprofit food hub, which strives to empower and represent the local food and agriculture movement in our community. Much like our local farmers, our organization prides itself on hard work, ingenuity and resilience. If a farmer needs a market, we find it. If our families and neighbors can't afford fresh local food, we find a way to pay for it. If TRACTOR springs a leak, we fix it. What's on this farm is what we've got, and we're determined to make it work.

The TRACTOR CSA is really just a 40-week fundraiser disguised as a local food sales program. We do our best to represent our communities in the greater market of food distribution, but we don't operate on capital gains and investments like a corporate grocery or wholesaler would. That being said, we do compete for your business. That keeps us on our toes and inspires innovation. We don't compete for income, but to build a local food system that supports all of its people, not a food system that extracts our economical and environmental resources to be enjoyed by a distant corporation who could care less about the Toe River, Roan Highlands or Mount Mitchell.

If this is what you believe, you've come to the right place. If you're simply enjoying the quality local food products, just as well, but know you are a part of something greater in securing fresh local food for everyone in our community. Either way, your CSA share gives us the strength and confidence to cultivate our mission.
