TRACTOR CSA Week 10 - August 6, 2020

Posted on July 31st, 2020 by Becca Smith

Meet Stacy Fields of Raspberry Fields

Stacy is originally from Ashe County, the land of Christmas trees, and like many other farmers in the area, she has agriculture in her blood and memories of picking in her grandmothers’ gardens. In 2015 she and her husband purchased land in Henderson County and, after in-depth research and working closely with the local extension office, they sowed nearly 3,000 Autumn Bliss raspberry plants in 2017. Stacy and her husband both work in addition to building their raspberry business, but, she jokes, they “don’t do anything small-scale”. This past year, they were present at four markets in the area, selling jam and infused vinegar in addition to fresh raspberries.

Where others may be intimidated by how relentlessly temperamental raspberry plants can be, Stacy Fields is motivated. In choosing what to grow on an acre of their property, they read up on compact cash crops, trends, and profits. They wanted something unique, she says, and landed on raspberries because not only are they not commonly grown in the area, but organic berries are even less so.  Stacy radiates pride and enthusiasm while talking about growing her organic raspberry business and connecting with her local customers, and plans to spend the winter working on a seedless, sugarless raspberry jelly.

Check out the extras!

At TRACTOR we are beginning to work with a wider variety of farmers, other than just vegetable producers. Check out some of the other great local products available for purchase as extras in your share each week.

Don't Forget Your Bag!

Please remember to return your red bags each week at pick up. This helps us keep costs down. The farmers would also appreciate it if you return your egg cartons. We will make sure that they make it back to the farmers.
