TRACTOR CSA - Week 2

Posted on June 5th, 2020 by Becca Smith

Thank you to all of our wonderful CSA members for a great first week! It was so nice to see so many familiar faces and lots of new faces too! We hope that you enjoyed your veggies. There are lots more where that came from. As the season progresses expect more variety. Many of our farmers are just now putting things in the ground.

Healthy Harvest

TRACTOR farmers grow amazing produce. You are getting a taste of that in the CSA. But did you know that much of what TRACTOR does is work to get that great produce to those that are hungry in our community? Our Healthy Harvest program pays farmers for their “ugly produce” that is then donated to local food pantries. This produce is still perfectly edible, it just does not meet certain USDA size and color standards. Many times, farmers don’t harvest this product because they do not have a market for it. TRACTOR has helped create that market for them. At the same, local food pantries are receiving fresh, locally grown produce. Produce is much more difficult for the pantries to obtain simply because of the short shelf life. This is a win, win for the community. The local agricultural economy is boosted and those that need it the most receive nutritious produce. You are playing a major role in this by participating in our CSA. Thank you!

Don’t Forget to Return Your Bag

By reusing the red bags each week, we are able to keep costs low and reduce waste. Please do your part and return your bag each week!
