Four more weeks of farm boxes!

Posted on October 23rd, 2023 by Ashley Thompson

We list these on demand boxes every week in conjunction with our CSA membership program, which ends in four weeks!  We plan to end on demand boxes that same week, so get your fill now!  We'll be sending other options for produce purchasing in the next weeks for the winter months when our production is limited to very hardy crops in our greenhouse spaces.

Our fall boxes will be filled with mainly roots and fresh greens, with a rotating winter squash option weekly.  These roots and squash store well, so don't worry if you can't finish them within the week.

Squash, onions, garlic, and potatoes can all be kept at room temperature with good airflow (they prefer 55-65 degrees).  Make sure to keep potatoes  in the dark so they don't start sprouting!

Moisture loving roots like beets, carrots and radishes should be kept in a refrigerator (or between 32-40 degrees) with high humidity (i.e. in plastic) for best longevity.

This week we've got Delicata Squash for you, as well as our last bunched salad turnips with their greens before the cold weather ruins their greens.  Enjoy the light mustardy goodness, they're my favorite root-greens around.  Here's a great recipe for a simple side dish.  If you want more bulk, add kale or bok choy in there for a lovely greens medley.

We also have some tomato seconds flats available to add on this week.  Seconds are misfits that may have cracked or been picked underripe when we cleared our plants and ripened off the vine. We sell them at a great price- $20/10lbs, but know that these tomatoes may be split or have a soft spot.  They do make for a great sauce or soup, though!

Your Farmers,

Ashley, Caleb and the Sungrounded Crew
