The return of New Potatoes

Posted on July 29th, 2023 by Ashley Thompson

I can't believe it's August already, but the harvest is certainly showing it.  We like to call August heavy season, because roots and fruits are king this time of year and our harvests swell up with the long, hot summer days.

Our new potatoes are one of these.  Our teaser potatoes in the early summer were planted into a greenhouse, but around here it takes until at least late July to grow potatoes outdoors.  We've got MANY potatoes planted this year in preparation for summer and fall CSA share and markets.  These first ones are the best though, sweet and creamy with skin so thin it's barely there.

We've also got a plethora of carrots right now, and we've got to get a bunch of them out of our field this week in order to make space for fall lettuce plantings (it's a crazy time of year) so not only do we have loose carrots in boxes, we've got 5lb bags on offer at a discounted price: feel free to swap out your 1lb carrots for a big bag and stock up!

We'll start to have occasional bulk offerings in the coming months, so keep your eye out.  Pickling cucumber season is just beginning, and tomato season is here big time.  We'll have 5lb bags and 10lb flats, respectively, for you soon.  That said, if you've got a preserving project you want to do at a certain time, always feel free to reach out via email, we're happy to take orders for bulk items to help you preserve the season!

Your farmers,
